The Akita Apparition - "Fire will fall from the sky."

Our Lady that cried

June 12, 1973 - Akita Apparition, Japan

It was a quiet Tuesday afternoon in the Convent of the Handmaids of the Eucharist, high up on the Yuzawadai hill, outside the mountain town of Akita, Japan.

The Sisters had all gone off on errands, and had left Sister Agnes Sasagawa to watch over the convent.

This was an important opportunity for Sister Agnes.  She was given a responsibility, which she took very seriously.

But in truth, the other Sisters didn't expect any activity which would require major decision-making of any kind, so leaving Sister Agnes alone there was fine.

For the totally deaf Nun, she felt she was given a special treat, in that her superiors allowed her to open the Tabernacle door in the Chapel, and pray before Our Lord Jesus present there.  Sister Agnes had a great love for Jesus in the Eucharist.

She had developed an intimate relationship with Him in the Tabernacle.  She could speak to Him there.  She was important to Him.  When she went to visit Jesus in the Tabernacle, it was just Him and her.  She blocked out the whole world.

She could hear Him, not with her ears, but with her heart.  She told him all that was in her heart.  Then, very often, she just remained silent, while He spoke to her.  It was a magnificent time for her.  She could not have asked for anything greater.

But on this day, this Tuesday afternoon, the Lord had a special plan for her.  He was to bestow upon her a blessing which would remain with her for the rest of her life.  In her own words, Sister Agnes tells us:

"When I approached to open the overwhelming, unknown light suddenly shone forth.  Seized with emotion, I prostrated myself immediately with my face to the floor...I remained perhaps an hour in this position, subjugated by a power which overwhelmed me."

If we can just envision this dear soul, so excited she was about to burst her skin, but at the same time, frightened.

What can this be?  What is happening to me?

For the rest of the night, she pondered on what had happened in the Chapel.

She tried to discern what the Lord was telling her.  But she was also ecstatic.  She wanted more.  She wanted to return.  And so she did.  She was probably awake all night long, but she waited until there would be other Sisters in the Chapel

And so, when it was proper for her to return in the early hours of the morning, she found some other Sisters praying their morning prayers.

She went towards the Tabernacle, her heart pounding, and again, was overcome by a great light, which blinded her.  She immediately went down on her knees and prostrated herself before the Tabernacle.

She wondered if the other Sisters had seen what she had seen, but she dared not ask.  They must have.  But why were they not on their knees in Adoration?

Why had they not prostrated themselves?  She continued to pray in this way for a long time.  When she got up, she was alone in the Chapel.

The words of Mother Mary on October 13, 1973 - Akita Apparition

"As I told you, if men do not repent and better themselves, the Father will inflict a terrible punishment on all humanity.  It will be a punishment greater than the deluge, such as one will never have seen before.  Fire will fall from the sky and will wipe out a great part of humanity, the good as well as the bad, sparing neither Priests nor faithful.  The survivors will find themselves so desolate, that they will envy the dead.  The only arms which remain for you will be the Rosary and the Sign left by My Son (the Eucharist).  Each day recite the prayers of the Rosary.  With the Rosary, pray for the Pope, the Bishops and the Priests.
